Broccoli with Sweet-and-Sour Tangerine Sauce

This sweet-and-sour side dish pairs nicely with Asian recipes, as well as with ham or turkey. On its own, the sauce enhances almost any cooked vegetable or meat and is good as a dipping sauce for potstickers.

Recipe information

  • Yield

serves 4, 1/2 cup broccoli and 1 tablespoon sauce per serving

Ingredients

2 cups broccoli florets (about 8 ounces)

Sauce

1/4 cup tangerine or orange marmalade
1 to 2 tablespoons plain rice vinegar
1/2 teaspoon grated peeled gingerroot or 1/8 teaspoon ground ginger
2 or 3 drops hot-pepper oil

Preparation

  1. Step 1

In a medium saucepan, steam the broccoli for 6 to 8 minutes, or until tender.

    Step 2

Meanwhile, in a small saucepan, stir together the sauce ingredients. Cook over low heat for 2 to 3 minutes, or until the marmalade is melted, stirring occasionally. Spoon over the cooked broccoli.
