This is the traditional planter's punch that follows the old rhyme: One of sour (lime juice), two of sweet (sugar), three of strong (rum), four of weak (ice or water).

Ingredients

1 ounce lime juice
2 tablespoons superfine sugar
3 ounces dark rum
4 ounces crushed ice
Dash Angostura bitters

Preparation

  1. Pour lime juice into a cocktail shaker and add sugar. Stir until sugar is dissolved. Add rum, ice and bitters and shake vigorously. Pour mixture, unstrained, into a 9-ounce goblet.
