Ingredients

1 1/2 pounds russet potatoes, peeled, cut into 1-inch pieces
1 pound red-skinned potatoes (about 3 large), peeled, cut into 1-inch pieces
2 tablespoons (1/4 stick) butter
2 tablespoons olive oil
1/4 cup chopped garlic
1/4 cup (or more) milk

Preparation

  1. Step 1

    Cook all potatoes in large pot of boiling salted water until very tender, about 15 minutes. Drain. Return potatoes to pot.

    Step 2

    Meanwhile, melt butter with oil in small skillet over medium heat. Add garlic and sauté until golden, about 5 minutes. Add garlic mixture to potatoes and mash. Add 1/4 cup milk and stir until potato mixture is smooth, adding more milk by tablespoons if potatoes are dry. Season with salt and pepper.
